On January 16th at noon eastern standard time, we are proud to have Sally T. Prouty, President and CEO of The Corps Network in Washington DC.

THE CORPS NETWORK (Download profile in PDF format)

Consider National and Community Service as a Strategy for... workforce and community development!

The Corps Network is a membership association composed of over 100 service and conservation corps from across the nation.

Service and Conservation Corps engage youth and young adults (ages ranging from 14 - 25) in service and conservation projects in their communities through a team-based approach with caring adult leaders. Corps members take a leadership role in their communities, earning money and education awards as they gain valuable educational, civic, and workforce skills. Community service projects range from creating accessible park trails in Utah to repairing damaged city sidewalks in Florida to building affordable energy efficient housing in Texas. Service and Conservation Corps present many opportunities for job search training professionals. Job search training professionals can:

Connect youth and young adults to the Corps as Corpsmembers with the opportunity to serve their communities, earn a paycheck, further their education, and gain valuable work skills.

Connect job seekers to the Corps as staff. Corps need staff with interests in: workforce preparation, youth development, conservation, construction, education, non-profit management, accounting, and many other areas.

Can connect with the Corps themselves to explore service as an effective strategy for engaging: youth aging out of foster care, formerly incarcerated or court-involved youth and young adults, out-of-school youth, persons with disabilities, and other populations with barriers to success in the job market.

Presenter Bio: Sally Prouty was appointed President of The Corps Network (formerly National Association of Service and Conservation Corps) in 2002 and serves as an advocate for its 113 member Corps working in 42 states and enrolling over 23,000 young men and women annually.

Prior to this appointment, she served four years as Deputy Director for Resource Management, Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) and an additional seven years as Director of the Ohio Civilian Conservation Corps, a division of ODNR.  Modeled after the federal program of the 1930’s and 40’s, and operating two residential and six non-residential programs, OCCC provided unemployed young men and women the opportunity to gain valuable life skills, advance educationally, and develop marketable work skills while also providing quality conservation services in the State of Ohio.  While working with the Ohio Corps, Sally cooperated in the development of The Corps Network’s Corps to Career program model.

Her current work is concentrated on utilizing national and community service as a strategy to revitalize communities, preserve and restore the environment, prepare young people for responsible, productive lives and build civic spirit through service.  In addition to working 30 years in the public and private sectors, Sally has nearly an equal number of years of experience in volunteer non-profit positions at the local, state, national and international levels including serving on a public school Board of Education and on the founding board of a faith-based Charter School. A Registered Nurse, Sally also holds a degree in Organizational Communication from Capital University in Columbus, Ohio.
