Eligibility Criteria for the Annual Robert G. Wegmann Award

The Robert Wegmann Award is given in honor of Dr. Robert G. Wegmann, one of the founders of the National Association for Job Search Training. He was a professor of sociology and statistics at the University of Houston-Clear Lake, and was well-known in the field of job search and labor market statistics. He was the program director of a nationally respected master’s level program in labor market studies and career development and a consultant in the field. He served as advisor and board member to firms in the outplacement field.

Dr. Wegmann believed that the field of job search and career development needs a greater emphasis on professional ethics and research to further develop the body of knowledge and to be an accepted field of study. He conducted many different research projects and wrote articles in newspapers, magazines and scholarly journals. He spoke on relevant topics and current statistics in the field at conferences and workshops nationally. The Association for Job Search Trainers honors Dr. Wegmann annually by presenting an award in his name to a worthy candidate who reflects a similar spirit of professionalism and scholarly approach in the field of job search.

This annual award is given to an individual nominated by a process of open nominations from the general membership and/or board members and officers and decided upon by the five members of the Awards Committee. The Awards Committee will ask for resume, curriculum vitae, research or presentation listings, or any other appropriate support material from the nominees to be considered. The individual should:

  1. Promote the field of career development and job search.
  2. Exhibit high professional standards, ethics, attitude and behavior.
  3. Contribute to the development of the body of knowledge about the field of career development and job search training through projects, speeches, product development, publications, lobbying efforts and/or research.
  4. Be a respected leader in the field.
  5. Be a supporter of the field of job search training, but not necessarily a member of the organization of the Association for Job Search Trainers.
Award: The annual Robert Wegmann will be represented by a commemorative plaque presented to the individual at the annual conference, a Mini Grant Award of $2,000.00 for continuation of research and development in the field of job search or labor market studies and an honorary one-time annual membership to the Association for Job Search Trainers. The membership is contingent on the approval and acceptance of the award recipient.

The Mini Grant Award is provided this year through a generous donation from the Wegmann family and matched by funds from the Annual Conference.
