Our Mission
To provide professional development for individuals and organizations engaged in self-directed job search training through conferences, publications and networking opportunities. Our focus is to promote practical educational opportunities fostering personal and professional growth that enhances our ability to serve our clients.
Our Vision
To extend our recognition as the most progressive and dynamic international organization for professionals interested in practical career planning and self-directed job search principles and to expand our outreach to all those who require these services.
A Brief History of AJST
AJST originated as the National Association of Job Search Training (NAJST) and officially changed its name in 1999 to more accurately reflect the international composition of its membership. NAJST evolved from a grassroots movement of professionals in 1986 and was incorporated in 1991. These visionaries joined forces to create an association that would be responsive to the needs of career and job search professionals.
Philosophy
Members of AJST are linked by the belief that self-directed job search principles offer practical techniques and strategies that enable the individual to more quickly find employment consistent with his/her career objective. We believe that we have the responsibility to develop our skills to better prepare others for the job-search process. We also recognize that the development of effective job search skills creates a more positive self-image thus empowering individuals in their job search. Most importantly, as a professional association, we encourage and support the highest standards of ethical behavior.
